Rainy winter days in Berlin are best spent drifting through one of the city’s calming museums, like the Neues Museum on Museum Island
This particular museum is filled with thousands of archaeological treasures, with a large focus on ancient Egyptian artifacts. But even if history and age-old cultural discoveries don’t appeal to your interests, I would still highly recommend paying a visit to the Neues Museum for the simple pleasure of experiencing the building’s interior features. What makes this museum so unique is its beautifully blended mashup of traditional and contemporary architecture – curiously juxtaposing the millennia-old collection. Start in the cellar (entering through the James Simon Gallery, and make your way up floor by floor.
A quick note for Berliners – If Berlin is your home or you visit the city often, I would seriously recommend making the one-time investment into an annual Staatliche Museen pass. This pass costs 50 euros, and gives you unlimited access to over 12 Museums throughout the city. Sven and I decided to get passes towards the end of last year, and I can already confirm that in less than 3 months, we’ve gotten our money’s-worth and more.
