december personal updates rgdaily blog
After taking a long break from blogging, I finally feel ready to pick up where I left off and share some personal updates!

Since my last post, so many exciting changes have occurred – above are just a few of the highlights.

Back in November, Sven came down from Washington D.C. for a few weeks. It was the first time since June that we have been together for more than 3 days! Although we were really busy, we still took a little bit of time to enjoy a few final brunches together in the flat where we’ve lived. It’s always been a favorite of ours. But honestly, who doesn’t enjoy relaxing in their pjs and eating yummy things? 😛

Our going away party.

My family and friends gathered together at my parents home for a going away party. I would be lying if I said I didn’t cry that night. It’s so hard to say goodbye to everyone, but I’m very thankful to have so much support and love from so many people! I’m also thankful that I got to hug everyone one last time since it will be a while before we’re together again.

Work, the holidays, and packing.

Towards the end of November, I had my final week of work at Davis. It was hard to say goodbye to all of my co-workers and I’m going to miss all of the creative and hands-on design and engineering work I did while I was there! But I’m excited to see how my career develops once we move. Then we jumped back into celebration mode and gathered at my parents home again to enjoy the Thanksgiving Holiday and Sven’s brother’s birthday (he was in the country from Canada). Once the celebrations were over, it was time to begin packing up my flat and getting everything ready for the big move. I ended up selling/giving away a lot of my stuff. In fact, all of my belongings are sailing across the ocean now in a large parcel! They will arrive it Rotterdam a week after I arrive and then will be shipped to us in Germany. Both my mom and sister Emily came to help me move since Sven had already gone back to D.C. I couldn’t have done it without them!

Shipping my belongings to Europe.

I’ve received a lot of personal messages about the logistics of moving to Europe, so in a later post, I’m going to share more information about my full moving experience. A company called UPakWeShip has sponsored my move. They have been amazingly helpful throughout the whole process. And trust me. Moving to the opposite side of the world can be very stressful, so it’s nice to feel like my belongings are in good hands. 🙂

Becoming an aunt – my most exciting update!

On November 28th, I became an aunt! My oldest sister Jessica gave birth to a healthy baby girl. I have to be honest. As soon as I held her I couldn’t hold back the tears. She is just so beautiful, perfect, and tiny. They named her Darcy Noelle, and I’m so proud to call her my niece! I’m also very excited for my sister and her husband. It’s an amazing thing to see their family grow, and I’m thankful that I was still in the US when she came. I’ll get to spend a little more time with her before I fly out on the 18th!

Right now, those are all the personal updates I have to share. It has been a super eventful month!

I’m going to be making the blog a much bigger focus in my life since it has been growing over the last year and half. Stay tuned for more posts and updates! Sven and I have plans to expand the travel portion of my blog and have even been planning a project together! But I wont ruin the surprise. 😉

xoxo,
Rebecca
