For three years, Sweden-based fashion label Filippa K has been on a mission to develop a better way of sourcing wool – one that’s fully-traceable, locally based, and more conscious. As a result, they’ve created an entirely new supply chain with true Scandinavian origins.
To make their Swedish Wool, Filippa K works with three small farms in rural Sweden. The sheep that live on these farms are regularly sheered throughout the seasons for their comfort, so Filippa K had the vision to develop a use for this wool that was otherwise going to waste. The wool from these three farms is collected and then prepared for spinning at a wash house on the Swedish island of Gotland.
From there, the cleaned wool is transported to Italy where it’s spun into yarn. When it’s ready, the yarn journeys to Romania where it’s been carefully knitted into a Max Sweater. Typically, the average wool sweater travels over 20,000 km throughout its production process, since most wool is sourced from far away places like Australia or South Africa. So by sourcing wool locally from Sweden, Filippa K has been able to reduce their supply chain length and carbon impact by 75%.

This season’s Swedish Wool has been knitted to take the shape of The Max Sweater — a perfectly oversized, unisex, and natural garment that’s made in limited quantities from 100% Swedish Wool. If you’re interested to learn more about Filippa K’s award-winning Swedish Wool supply chain, or wish to have your own classic Max Sweater to take you from season to season, check out the links below. Only 300 Max Sweaters have been produced (this being one of them) so supplies are quite limited. I’m wearing size XS, so you can see that the fit of the sweater is wonderfully oversized.
