The most exciting part about my first visit to Germany was the visit we took to Sven’s home town.
After flying into Copenhagen, we took the bus south where I finally got to meet my man’s family and learn more about the place he grew up calling home – Hamburg Germany.
I can see why Sven enjoyed growing up in the suburbs of Hamburg.
The community where they live has so much charm with cozy houses surrounded by blooming gardens. On Saturday, we road bikes to the little village market and shopped around for fresh fruits and other goodies. Then we biked all throughout the community and through the forest. In the afternoon, we spent the day relaxing in the gardens with family. It was the perfect relaxing weekend we needed before we made our way to Budapest and Copenhagen for the rest of our trip!
We spent the day before exploring the center city of Hamburg with Sven’s family. Even though I was super jet-lagged, we still managed to see quite a bit of the city. I’ll share more on that day in a later post.

We checked off several items on the list during our short visit, and I can’t wait to explore more of this beautiful city when we return! I’m hoping we can go for Christmas *fingers crossed*.
Sven is back in Hamburg right now with his family for a few weeks – I wish I was there with him, but apparently I missed all of the rain they’ve had lately. Luckily I got to visit Hamburg during the nice weather (I still thought it was cold for June).
Now I’m off to visit my friends and family in Charlotte – we’re having lots of parties this weekend for the holiday!
