In the bustling heart of Palma, situated on the edge of Plaça Cort, Hotel Cort awaits to welcome you. Hidden behind a sandstone façade dotted with vibrant red shutters, this boutique design hotel offers up a world of historic charm and 4-star luxuries. Just a few weeks ago, Sven and I had the pleasure of rounding-off our summer with a visit to Hotel Cort and we’re already dreaming of our return.

Design & Accommodations
Housed inside a beautiful sandstone building that served as a bank in former times, Hotel Cort is filled with details that underscore the heritage of the property. Interior designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán created the concept for the hotel, mingling the old bank’s architectural features with elements that balance contemporary touches with old-world appeal. With only 16 suites, each room has a unique character entirely of its own. During our three night visit, Sven and I stayed in a beautiful Plaça Suite which had a small balcony overlooking the buzzing plaza below with it’s centuries old olive tree. Ample in space, our suite included an enormous king-size bed, double shower adorned with hand-painted tiles, deep soaking bathtub, and a separate cozy sitting area. Sven and I truly appreciated the warm and inviting maritime vibes of the room. Each corner was perfectly styled with timeless materials like brass an leather, and the walls were lined with maps and books that called to Mallorca’s rich trade history.

Vibes & Amenities
Time seems to pass by a little slower at Hotel Cort. Every space — be it your own suite, the brasserie bar, or sun-drenched roof terrace — invites you to distance your thoughts from life’s everyday commotion and sink in to the present moment. It’s a place to relax and slow down while you experience the energy and warmth of island life. Sven and I ended each afternoon on the hotel’s beautiful roof terrace, enjoying the golden light as the sunset behind Palma’s terracotta rooftops. Sunbeds, umbrellas, and a small splash pool are all to be found on the tile-clad terrace — the ideal place to wind down before heading out for a evening of tapas and Spanish wine.

Local Surroundings
The city of Palma is right at your feet when you step outside Hotel Cort. No matter the direction you walk, you’re bound to come across a lovely discovery as you stroll through the cobbled streets of the historic city center. You’ll quickly realize that Palma is a very walkable city, so getting around by foot is the perfect way to fully experience Palma. Given the central location of the hotel, practically everything you’re looking for is in reach. There is no shortage of sites to explore near by — from fortresses, cathedrals, art nouveau architecture, and art galleries to retail therapy, bars, and restaurants galore. Sven and I did decide to venture outside of Palma’s old town, renting bikes for the afternoon which we rode along the beautiful harbor and beaches. We rented bikes from a local vendor that was recommended to us by the hotel concierge.

Breakfast & Raw & Grill Brasserie
Breakfast is served all day long at Hotel Cort, which is perfect for those on a mission to enjoy a lazy morning lie-in. The a la carte menu includes a delicious selection of pastries, toasts served with sun-ripened tomatoes, eggs, omelets, fruit, and more. Guest can enjoy breakfast either inside the hotel restaurant, or on the beautiful plaza terrace. Each morning Sven and I relished in our slow start to the day, taking our time for a leisurely breakfast and an extra cup of coffee as we took in the sunny surroundings. We also loved our experience dining at the hotel’s Mallorcan-Mediterranean fusion restaurant, Raw & Grill Brasserie. The menu features an incredible mix of raw and charcoal grilled dishes from the local land, sea, or farm. During our dinner, we sampled everything from mouth-watering ceviche to grilled lamb with chimichurri — proof to us that one need not venture too far to get an excellent meal.
