Within the historic walls of Hotel SKT. Annæ, Danish tradition is met with all the comforts and refinement of a boutique Scandinavian design hotel.
I recently checked into Hotel SKT. Annæ for a few nights and absolutely loved everything about my time there. The hotel is quite literally located in the heart of Copenhagen, inside a beautiful building filled with character and rich in history. Overnight guests have been welcomed at this address since the 1850’s, but in those days it was known as Hotel Neptune. A few years ago however, the hotel was purchased by the Hildebrandt family who have transformed the historic building into the luxury boutique hotel that it is today.
During the renovations, the Hildebrandt’s sought to keep the atmosphere deeply rooted to its Copenhagen heritage. Much of the interior styling was inspired by the works of Vilhelm Hammershøi, a Danish painter from Copenhagen who was known for his soft interior compositions in muted shades of browns, grays, and faint blues. While this traditionalism is certainly reflected throughout Hotel SKT. Annæ, it’s been tastefully off-set by chic Danish design and pared-back styling. The result of this thoughtful combination is a unique hotel that’s classic, polished, and undeniably Scandinavian.

Accommodations & Vibes
During my time at Hotel SKT. Annæ, I stayed in a spacious and comfortable Large Deluxe room. The cushy king-size bed was just what I needed after busy days in the city, and I appreciated the calming and elegant interior décor. The bathroom was also perfectly polished, fashioned with chic gold detailing and monochromatic tile.
When I wasn’t in my room, I spent most of my time on the hotel’s beautiful rooftop terrace. SKT. Annæ’s rooftop lounge might just be the best in the city. The charming garden oasis is actually looked after by Claus, the owner of Hotel SKT. Annæ, and you can tell that he takes a lot of pride in growing this cozy urban garden. The views over Copenhagen are absolutely breathtaking, and an iconic city landmark can be spotted from every direction.

Neighborhood & Amenities
Although just steps away from the buzzing and colorful canal of Nyhavn, the streets of Sankt Annæ Plads that play host to Hotel SKT. Annæ are peaceful and subdued. A row of well-kept white facades overlook a small green park that’s nestled between the tree-lined streets. I for one much prefer this calmer and refined side of Copenhagen, especially since Sankt Annæ Plads still offers all the peaceful charm of a small neighborhood without giving up anything in terms of proximity. Just outside the hotel are countless options for site-seeing, dining and shopping. If you’re interested in exploring the city in the most traditional Danish way, by bicycle, you can hire a bike directly via Hotel SKT. Annæ.
There are two restaurants at the hotel, The Club and The Shrimp. I didn’t have a chance to dine at both during my stay, but I did stopped by for a glass of wine at the hotel bar, The Club. During breakfast hours, the hotel’s main restaurant is transformed into a well prepared Danish buffet with lots of freshly made dishes and organic options to choose from. And traveling coming to Copenhagen for longer stays can considering booking one of the hotel’s fully outfitted luxury apartments in the neighboring building.
