Settling into a new home is a journey. But instead of rushing through, I’m here for the process.
To follow up on yesterday’s black and white themed blogpost about life in Munich, I thought I would share a few interior updates from June, but in color. Over the last month, we’ve made a lot of progress to turn our new apartment into a home. But of course, we’re still in the early stages.
There are quite a few things I still need to sort out, but we’ve reach the point where all the essentials are in place and it’s now just a matter of finetuning the little details. Eventually, I want to upsize our sofa and add a few more comfortable lounge pieces to the living room. But I’m enjoying the process of slowly designing each space. Even though we have more room in this flat, I’m maintaining my minimalist mindset and want to keep things fresh and open. I love the feeling of an empty wall or unoccupied corner — space that leaves room for thought and soothes the mind.
I’ve already finished some DIY projects and have plans for a few more to come. My next big undertaking will be to re-finish the vintage highboard we bought just before leaving Berlin. I spent several days in June sewing ‘wave style’ curtains for our bedroom and hallway, and will make other curtains for the dining and living room later on when I find more time. The first sets I finished turned out just as I had imagined, so I’m thrilled to have finally decided to invest in a sewing machine — I feel like the possibilities are endless now.
I’ll keep sharing updates as the space develops. I’m most excited to reveal the images from our dining room. A few days after we moved to Munich, my first order of bespoke designs arrived for By Rebecca Goddard. There were two dining tables with the first order, both handmade from beautiful stone. I haven’t yet unveiled the design, which is the main reason why I’ve not been sharing wide-angle photos of our dining room yet (or the view into the other rooms for that matter since they are all connected). I don’t want to ruin the surprise until I’m ready to launch these first bespoke pieces. Of course, our home is also doubling as my showroom so many of the early images I share for byrg will have been created here. Once I have my label’s website finished, I’ll be sharing the view into our dining room quite often.
