For many years, Menu has been on my short-list of favorite Scandinavian design brands. Based out of Copenhagen, they create pieces that are defined by a mentality that blends minimalism with nordic design heritage. Over the seasons, Menu has continuously introduced a thoughtful range of smaller objects and interior accessories to complement the furniture in their collection — designs that are equally functional as they are stunning.
[AD] Amongst these pieces is an assortment of tableware designed by the Copenhagen-based architect and design duo, Mentze Ottenstein, including the Etruscan series and Strandgade glassware. These pieces are some of the more recent additions to our home, and I love how they elevate a table setting in the most sculptural of ways. The curvaceous form of the pitcher combined with its mirror-like finish make this design a true eye-catcher. I get equal enjoyment using it as a decorative object as I do when using it for serving water.
Likewise, the little sister of this design, the Etruscan Jug, is also a perfect example of beauty combined with function. Inspired by the classic form of a Roman vessel, these pieces can be relished for their timelessness and materiality that gives an air of modernism. In a similar way, the Strandgade Drinking Glasses bring a certain amount of elegance to the table. Delicately crafted from mouth-blown glass, these glasses are so simple yet classic with a beautiful fluted edge which makes them comfortable to hold and drink from.
More recently, Menu has also introduced a range of scented candles through the Olfacte Collection. Each scent has been blended with the intention to create a transportive olfactory experience – poured from plant-based wax and natural essential oils. Midnight Soak is my personal favorite scent, based on bitter orange, fig, and geranium with cedarwood and moss at the base. Scroll below to see a few moments of these pieces in our home.
