Behind the stately facade of Copenhagen’s former Royal Danish Academy of Music, Nobis Hotel waits to welcome you. Just a few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to spend three evenings at this now-iconic design hotel in Denmark’s capital and was utterly enthralled by every detail. Nordic styling, neoclassic architecture, and five-star hospitality beautifully harmonize to create a uniquely Scandinavian hotel experience within the historic walls — leaving a lasting impression you’ll wish to return to again and again.

Accommodations & Amenities
During my visit, I had the pleasure of staying in one of the hotel’s Deluxe Rooms which was incredibly spacious with ceilings that sailed at least three and a half meters overhead. An expansive wall of windows overlooking the hotel’s private courtyard allowed natural light to flood the space all day long — an architectural feature that was accentuated by gauzy floor to ceiling curtains. My generously sized bed was framed by black lighting elements and soothing shades of green, while warmth was brought into the space through herringbone floors and carefully selected mid-century furnishings by the likes of Carl Hansen & Søn.
I found the bathroom to be equally spacious and lovely — with walls clad completely in marble and bath amenities from my favorite BYREDO. The same serene and soothing atmosphere of my bathroom was mirrored in the hotel’s spa, which also happened to be completely designed from stunning grey marble. There guest will find a small gym, ice bath, sauna, and showers. I ended my evenings with an hour at the spa during my visit, and it was the perfect dose of relaxation after a full day in the city.

Design & Atmosphere
Throughout the entire hotel, echos of the building’s rich musical history can be found all around. A pared-back adaptation of sheet music has been used in the design of the building’s wayfinding, and many of the original architectural features such as the former academy’s crest can be seen in interior moldings. Furthermore, an impressive lighting installation made from thin aux cords gracefully fills the open space between the hotel’s spiraling five-floor marble staircase — a design that pays homage to the strings of the instruments which once filled the building with music. Although grand and undeniably luxurious, the atmosphere remains laidback and relaxed thanks to the thoughtful and subdued appointment of materials, furnishings, and lighting. In lounge areas and outdoor spaces alike, a mix of classic and contemporary designs from brands such as HAY and &Tradition can be found, offsetting the classical feeling embedded in the building’s structure.

Breakfast & Dining
Each morning, a buffet style breakfast is served in the hotel’s restaurant, NOI. Here guests can enjoy a wide mix of Danish classics and local pastries based on seasonal selections. I personally enjoyed the fresh-pressed juices and oat-milk lattes. During evening hours, you can experience a leisurely yet refined dinner at the restaurant or drinks at the hotel’s Marble Bar which is located just adjacent to NOI. All of the hotel’s gastronomy is housed in the 1960’s extension which was designed to emulate Le Corbusier’s Sainte Marie de La Tourette. A patchwork of windows encases the entire dining room, allowing light to fill the space all day long. And in the evening hours, the chic ambience makes for the perfect place to unwind with a glass of wine while soaking in the surroundings.
