It has been a while since I’ve posted so I thought I would share some November updates. Boy – have I been busy!
There is so much commotion going on in my life right now, and it’s not going to get any calmer for a while.
But that’s ok. I’ve been working hard to embrace the ebb and flow of life during this busy season. Until we’ve officially made our move, I might not be sharing many post. Quite frankly, I just have too much going on right now.
It’s wild how quickly the days have been passing. I’m still working full time, and Sven has still been living in Washington D.C. On top of my 45 hour work weeks, I’ve been busy every evening getting prepared for the move. Because of how expensive international shipping is, Sven and I have decided to sell most of my stuff. I’ll only be shipping a relatively small amount of things. The rest is being sold, donated, or passed along to friends and family.
Saying goodbye to most of my belongings isn’t easy. But it’s a whole lot easier than saying goodbye to my family and friends! That is, hands-down, the most anxiety inducing thing I’m dealing with. Thankfully it’s not goodbye forever, and thanks to modern conveniences, it’s a lot easier to stay connected. Even from across the ocean.
I’m grateful to say that the feelings of stress I’ve experienced have been massively outweighed by the amount of love and support I’ve been receiving from the people near and dear to me. It’s stressful to move halfway around the world, but I feel (mostly) calm about it knowing that I’m not doing it alone. For starters, I have Sven by my side every step of the way. And also, my family and friends have been here for me too. <3
Tonight, Sven is heading my way on the train and will be in town for the next few weeks! After he arrives, we’ll be fitting in as much time as possible with the people we love. This weekend alone, we have dinner parties planned three nights in a row! How wonderful is that!? Next weekend, we’ll be gathering together with so many family and friends. My parents are hosting a big going away party for us – an “Auf Wiedersehen Rebecca and Sven” party. I’m looking forward to that gathering so much! THEN, the following week is the Thanksgiving Holiday. Sven’s brother is even coming to town to spend the holiday with us and my family.
After that, Sven will go back to D.C. to finish his work and I will prepare to move out of my flat. In December, I’ll be living with my parents for the first few weeks before I fly out to meet Sven in Germany (he’s flying a few days before me from D.C.). During those weeks at my parents, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that my older sister has her baby! She is due to have a sweet baby girl on December 16th and I just can’t wait to meet that little one! My flight is on the 18th. It could be a very close call if the baby decides to be late, and there’s a chance that I won’t get to meet her before I go if she is late! That would be so heart breaking to me. Hopefully she comes right on time. 🙂
Once we’re in Germany, it will be time to start preparing for the Christmas Holiday! I’m looking forward to visiting a few Christmas markets with Sven’s mother. I will also get to meet the many of his extended family… eek! So many things to look forward to! And lastly, we have some travel planned for the end of December. Can you guess where we’re going?
Sven and I will be bringing in the New Year in Greece!
We’ve booked a large home in Athens and will be going with a large group of Sven’s close friends. I certainty have a lot to be thankful for. Those are all the November updates I have for now!
