Faster than I imagined, our new Berlin flat is taking form and beginning to feel like home.
Today I thought I would share a few first images from our Altbau here in Berlin. I’m sure it will change countless times during the months or years that we call this space home, documenting the journey will be fun to look back on.
So, how did we get here and why did we move? Well, it all happened quite unexpectedly and rather fast. Halfway through December, Sven and I returned to Berlin after a few weeks away in the US. The day after we got back into country, he got some news from his work letting us know that we would be in Berlin a bit longer than we expected. So, we decided it was time to find a bit bigger flat in an area where I felt more connected. Before the holidays, we signed a new lease and a few days into the new year, Sven and I were busy with small renovations – making the space ready for our official move date. It’s been a wild start into 2020, but I feel so at home and at peace here already, and I’m really glad that we know what the next year or so holds for us.
We still have a lot to arrange, organize, and style – but I’m enjoying the journey and just so appreciative to be here. I’ve always dreamt of living in a beautiful turn of the century apartment like this, with sailing ceilings, historic molding, and herringbone wood floors. This time last week, I was still busy sanding and patching the walls. We decided to hire a painter to get the whole flat back to a beautiful baseline white for us. Now, we just need to get a few basics in place and then I’ll start working on more interior details – as you might guess, I have so many visions for this space!
