Nø Cosmetics ~ Clean & Natural Skincare For Everyday

    March 26, 2020
No Cosmetics - Minimalist Skincare, Simple Everyday Beauty | Product Photography, Packaging Design, Shadow Play, Lighting, Vegan Cosmetics | RG Daily Blog

For more than a year now, Nø Cosmetics has been a part of my everyday skincare. I love this brand for several reasons, and one of those is their commitment to high-quality, clean ingredients that will have your skin looking so good, you won’t even need makeup.

During these extra long days at home, I’ve been spending a lot of time focusing on my skincare routine. I’ve done a lot of research and testing to figure out what exactly my skin needs to be happy and healthy, and I feel like I’m finally in a really great place. I’ve already shared a blogpost about Nø Cosmetics, but I want to share another update because Nø is still a big part of my skincare routine, and I use their products everyday in combination with a few other brands.

Nø is super clever, and they have formulated one universal moisturizer that can be customized to work for specific skin needs through the addition of one of their serums. I’ve been mixing the different Nø serums into my moisturizer, based on whatever I’m dealing with in the moment, and sometimes I use all of the serums together. Nø’s cleansing oil gel is also a long-time favorite of mine. I like to use this product in the evening after my face is already clean – I massage it into my dry skin for a few minutes and sometimes leave it on longer as a mask. Then I rinse it off and gently pat my face dry before adding my nighttime moisturizer. It always leaves my skin feeling super soft and moisturized, and the smell of the cleanser is really nice too.

Linen Vale is a small interiors brand, based out of France and specializing in 100% natural candles with fragrances crafted to inspire restorative moments at home.

These days, many of us are spending a lot of extra time at home. Creating a cozy atmosphere is super important, especially right now, and scent is one element that will help heighten a sense of calm. I’ve been enjoying my Linen Vale candles a lot recently, burning one each afternoon as the workday comes to an end and another relaxing evening at home begins.

All of Linen Vale’s candles are hand-poured in the French Alps, using 100% natural soy wax that’s blended with pure essential oils. The wooden wick adds a fire-side crackle effect, while creating a long and slow burn. In fact, these candles have an impressively long burn time, lasting up to 40 hours. The natural essential oil fragrances are mellow and earthy, making a delicate and subtile appearance that pairs so well with the candles’ beautifully designed glass canisters.

Right now, Linen Vale is offering 15% off your first order and free shipping to Europe and the UK.

Please remember to keep supporting small businesses!

KleoCo. ~ Slow Made Ceramics for Everyday Living

    March 20, 2020
Kleo Co. Ceramics ~ Simple For Everyday Slow Living | Minimalist Tableware, Scandinavian Design, Sustainable Home, Natural Aesthetic | Product Photography, Light and Shadows | RG Daily Blog

KleoCo. is an Antalya-based ceramics studio, focused on producing tableware and objects that mirror the beautiful simplicity of mindful, everyday living.

The entire KleoCo. collection is best described as deliberately uncomplicated — pure even. Every form and simple silhouette has been guided by the deepest understanding of “truth to materials” and minimalism. Each KleoCo. product is carefully made by hand, and partially finished with a clear glaze so that clay’s natural attributes, both texture and color, can be celebrated, not concealed. The brand’s first collection, Kopenhavn, was introduced in 2018 and focuses on the concept of versatility, as each object functions harmoniously in almost any space. Over the past year, I’ve come to know KleoCo.’s creative director, Murat Atasever, via Instagram. In the interview below, Murat and I dive a bit deeper into the brand, exploring KleoCo.’s mentality towards design and ceramics, ethos for simple living, and artisanal manufacturing.

An Interview with Murat Atasever – KleoCo.’s Founder and Creative Director

    Murat Atasever – Antalya Turkey

Q – What led you to ceramics — when and where did you relationship with the wheel and the clay begin?

“My job as a creative director gave me a chance to work across multiple different industries and disciplines. Wheel and clay were definitely the ones that captured my interest the most. When I met my wife, we both were doing different things at the time. I was working on creative strategy for global brands and she was still in college studying ceramics and glass design. We then decided to combine our expertise and create a brand which we could also integrate into our own lifestyle. This is how KleoCo. was born in 2012 with the inspiration of creating modern and pure living spaces. During the inception of the KleoCo. we partnered with multiple different brands and later we decided to create our very first collection. This is how the story started to take shape.”

Q – When did you first have the concept for KleoCo. — was the brand born out of the products you were making or were you inspired to start your own ceramics studio and thus the collection was born?

“We got our inspiration from architecture, furniture design and unique living spaces. But more importantly we were most influenced by the pureness and simplicity of life itself. In 2018, our first collection ‘Kopenhavn’ was born after spending some time in Copenhagen, Denmark. Not only the design but also the feel and texture were important elements of our products. When you hold a piece of our collection, it must also give you that same feeling we have…”

Q – Your studio is based in Antalya Turkey, yet KleoCo. has quickly captured the attention of ceramics and design enthusiasts around the world, and particularly in Northern Europe. Does the brand share any ties with Scandinavia?

“Yes, indeed! The inspiration for our collection and design is deeply rooted in Scandinavia. However being located in Antalya gives us a unique chance to blend the Scandic design with the rich cultural heritage of our location. It is our unique twist which allowed us to create a community of enthusiasts around the world quickly.”

    Q&A Continues Below…

Ceramics ~ Simple For Everyday Slow Living | Minimalist Tableware, Scandinavian Design, Sustainable Home, Natural Aesthetic | Product Photography, Light and Shadows | RG Daily Blog
Q – It’s obvious that minimalism is at the core of the KleoCo. aesthetic. What other visual influences and schools-of-thought have inspired you as the brand’s creative director?

“KleoCo. also represents our own daily lifestyle. That’s why not only our collection reflects aesthetically pleasing simplicity and pureness but also our lifestyle mirrors the values of the brand. Our daily clothing, objects in our living spaces and even things in our kitchen are carefully selected to reflect a harmony and balance. One of the most important aspects of KleoCo. is being compatible with the living spaces it is placed in. You can think of it as a piece of rock sitting in nature giving you that sense of belonging and stillness. That is the feeling we would like our products to convey when you hold them.”

Q – Tell me more about the way KleoCo. produces their range of tableware and objects. Is wheel-turning the main method, or are you and your ceramists using other methods such as slip casting?

“Depending on various product requirements, we use both wheel-turning or slip casting. Our products go through several stages during the production. Most of our work is based on slip casting, each piece is carefully hand crafted and glazed for giving that unique KleoCo. feeling. Our products are designed to be part of everyday life. What is important here is how you intend to blend it into your own life. You can use a piece of our collection as a design object or for presenting food. “

Q – The items in your collection, though clean and sophisticated, maintain an element of earthiness that seems to celebrate the humble material from which these refined shapes come — clay. How does KleoCo. let the natural properties and colors of the clay guide the design?

“When selecting our ingredients we make sure that we only use clay and glaze that do not contain any harmful materials or chemicals. All our products are made with the highest quality materials suitable for food consumption. We intentionally use transparent glaze which highlights the natural state of clay. This allows you to feel a clean and sophisticated product when you hold a piece from our collection.”

Q – How many ceramists are working to create the items you sell? Are you working on a made-to-order basis?

“Our ceramic artist, Aslı Şahin Atasever, is managing the production. Each product our customers hold is hand made with love and care. We also have a dedicated team helping us during the lengthy production process. We are constantly in production where our products are sold across multiple different stores. At the moment we are busy with creating our new collection and focusing on business development. Also our online store will be available very soon.”

Q – Besides opening the KleoCo. webshop, what other exciting plans does the brand have for the future?

“Increasing our production capabilities and building the new collection are our top priorities now. We are also focusing on showcasing our products by attending influential design events. Recently we partnered with a global brand where we are designing a bespoke collection for them. We are incredibly excited about our future plans.”

5 Tips For Making The Most of Home Office

    March 13, 2020
Working From Home - 5 Tips For Enjoying Home Office / RG Daily Blog - Interior

Right now, we’re in the midst of a difficult time. Many people around the world have been affected by the very rapid onset of Covid-19, having to make changes to their daily life and everyday routines. A big adjustment many people are having to make is the sudden switch to working from home.

For introverts like me, working from home isn’t so bad, but for other more extroverted people, it can feel a bit uncomfortable. No matter where you stand on the introvert-extrovert spectrum, there are still a few strategies and habits you can adapt that will help you make the most of everyday home office. The tips below are a few things I’ve learned over the last year since I made the switch – hopefully they bring a bit of balance to those of you who are making the adjustment to this new daily structure.

    5 Tips For Home Office

    – Get Workspace Ready –
When working from home, having a orderly environment will make all the difference. Take a little bit of time to set up a designated area where you can focus and don’t allow your work to spread into all areas of your home! This is very important, otherwise you’ll quickly get the feeling that your entire life has been consumed by your job. Have a place to work, and try to keep it as separate as possible from the places in your home where you go to relax. When I pause for lunch for example, I always try to eat my meal at a different place from where I’ve been working, even if it’s just on the opposite end of the table.
    ~

    – Eliminate Distractions Upfront –
One negative aspect of home office is the countless opportunities for distraction and procrastination. So during the first few days of settling in, try to knock-out any tasks around the house that might distract you from uninterrupted work. Maybe this means you have to do some power-cleaning upfront. Whatever it is that needs to be done, do it or stow it away for a later time.
    ~

    – Limit Your Days in PJs –
It’s going to be tempting to hit the ground running first thing in the morning – and then before you know it, it’s 2pm and you’re still in your PJs. Changing out of your pajamas is a physical and mental cross-over in the day that divides “your time” from work time. Your mornings, days, and nights will begin to blur together if your only changing from one set of PJs to the next – and after a few days, you’re probably going to start feeling a bit slob-ish (I learned this lesson the hard way last year). Give yourself a proper start into the day, and make yourself ready. Maybe you don’t need to suit-up like you would for the office, but try to maintain your getting-ready routine in a way that makes sense for the home.
    ~

    – Maintain a Schedule –
Perhaps one of the most difficult aspects of working from home is keeping your schedule on track. When you have the option to set your own hours and pace, it’s easy to adapt to the mind-set of “I’ll just do that when I feel like it”. Like breaking for lunch for example, it might be easy to breeze through normal meal times when there’s no-one else around you that you’re keeping schedule with, but try to stay consistent and keep a daily structure. Close you’re computer when it’s time for the day to end, and try to get started on-time the next morning. Without structure and a routine, life at home can begin to feel unbalanced and chaotic.
    ~

    – Get Moving! –
When you’re at home all day, you’re going to be moving a whole lot less just by default. Unless you live in a mansion, it’s going to be difficult to get your steps in. Go for a brisk walk in the afternoon, or climb the steps in your apartment building a few times – anything to keep your blood flowing. I like to take little breaks throughout the day to do light ballet in my living-room. Whatever it is that you enjoy – be it dancing, jump-robe, or yoga – try to do a little bit each day!

    ~

I hope each and everyone of you is healthy and well – lots of love from Berlin.

Berlin Neues Museum ~ Art & Architecture

    February 4, 2020
Neues Museum | Berlin Travle Guide | Art, History & Architecture Museum Island | City Photography | Neutral Aesthetic - RG Daily Blog

Rainy winter days in Berlin are best spent drifting through one of the city’s calming museums, like the Neues Museum on Museum Island

This particular museum is filled with thousands of archaeological treasures, with a large focus on ancient Egyptian artifacts. But even if history and age-old cultural discoveries don’t appeal to your interests, I would still highly recommend paying a visit to the Neues Museum for the simple pleasure of experiencing the building’s interior features. What makes this museum so unique is its beautifully blended mashup of traditional and contemporary architecture – curiously juxtaposing the millennia-old collection. Start in the cellar (entering through the James Simon Gallery, and make your way up floor by floor.

A quick note for Berliners – If Berlin is your home or you visit the city often, I would seriously recommend making the one-time investment into an annual Staatliche Museen pass. This pass costs 50 euros, and gives you unlimited access to over 12 Museums throughout the city. Sven and I decided to get passes towards the end of last year, and I can already confirm that in less than 3 months, we’ve gotten our money’s-worth and more. You can purchase an annual pass at any one of the Berlin Staatliche museums.

Hotel Alexandra Copenhagen ~ Design Heaven

    February 3, 2020
Hotel Alexandra ~ Copenhagen Denmark Design Hotels | Mid-century Classic Danish Interior Design | Travel Guide, RG Daily Blog

In the heart of Copenhagen hidden behind the beautiful muted façade of Hotel Alexandra, a colorful world of mid-century Danish design awaits to be discovered.

During my most recent visit to Copenhagen, I had the great pleasure of staying at Hotel Alexandra – a wonderfully unique destination that falls into a category somewhere between boutique hotel and design museum. Everywhere you turn, there’s an original piece of mid-century Danish design history – an invaluable collection that Hotel Alexandra has carefully sourced over the last 20 years. For Danish design enthusiast like me, a visit to Hotel Alexandra feels a bit magical. The concept for the hotel was inspired by the manager’s grandfather who served as Head of Exhibition at the Louisiana Museum in Denmark. Over the years, this nurtured appreciation for Danish design heritage evolved into what is now one of Copenhagen’s nicest living design museums – Hotel Alexandra.

Although Hotel Alexandra is full of vintage design pieces that originate from the 50’s and 60’s, nothing there feels the least bit stuffy or outdated. The lobby has a cozy and laidback atmosphere, with plenty of comfortable (and iconic) lounge chairs where guests can relax with a book in-hand while enjoying the tunes from the near-by record player. Like the main entrance and lobby, which offer a lively and eclectic mix of mid-century furniture, lighting, art, and textiles, each of the 61 rooms and suites at Hotel Alexandra are uniquely decorated, focusing on a specific designer or style influence from the era. The beautiful room where I stayed, a Double Deluxe Room, happened to be dedicated to one of my favorite designers from the period, Arne Jacobsen. The room was wonderfully spacious and filled with a few of my most coveted classic designs by Jacobsen such as Swan and Egg chairs, and beautiful matte-black AJ lighting. The bathroom has been recently renovated, but decorated with coordinating lighting and tilework inspired by Jacobsen’s original patterning.

    Amenities and Neighborhood
Beyond the incredible styling and warm hospitality at Hotel Alexandra, I can’t go without mentioning the amazing location within Copenhagen. It’s just a few paces away from the city’s beautiful Town Hall (where Sven and I got married) and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes just around the corner. Hotel Alexandra makes getting about the city even more convenient, offering bicycles on-sight for daily rental. And if you’re looking for Copenhagen travel tips, the hotel can provide you with endless ideas through their staff-vetted city guides that guests can easily access via smartphone. The morning breakfast buffet that’s hosted at Hotel Alexandra’s neighboring restaurant, Godtfolk, is also not to be missed – this can be booked with accommodations. Each night, guests are invited to enjoy a complimentary glass of wine in the cozy hotel lobby.

Plan your visit to Hotel Alexandra

The Soothing Ceramics World of Robynn Storgaard

    January 27, 2020
Robynn Storgaard - Danish Ceramics Studio Copenhagen - Handmade Pottery - Minimalist Scandinavia Style, Slow Living / RG Daily Blog

During my most recent trip to Copenhagen, I had the joy of catching up with Robynn Storgaard while paying a visit to her calming and totally inspiring ceramics studio.

A few months ago when we first met, I shared a short article about Robynn – so if you want to learn a bit more about her work and interesting journey into the world of ceramics, click here to read my earlier story. Since our first visit, Robynn has moved to a new, completely dreamy studio that’s closer to her Copenhagen home. We spent the afternoon here catching up, and sharing our experiences and insights in this design-focused universe where we both exist. Robynn has recently launched her webshop where you can buy her ceramics – each unique and slowly made from locally sourced Scandinavian clays and glazes. She’s become known for her fluidly formed vessels and carefully carved cups which she compliments with a range of soft and understated pastel glazes. These aesthetics of her work mirror Robynn’s ethos for slow living – calm, thoughtful, and meant to be cherished.

Our New Flat ~ Turn of the Century Living in Berlin

    January 14, 2020
Minimalist Scandinavian Interior | White, Wood, and Beige | Berlin Altbau, Interior Design Inspiration | RG Daily Blog, RGDAILY

Faster than I imagined, our new Berlin flat is taking form and beginning to feel like home.

Today I thought I would share a few first images from our Altbau here in Berlin. I’m sure it will change countless times during the months or years that we call this space home, documenting the journey will be fun to look back on.

So, how did we get here and why did we move? Well, it all happened quite unexpectedly and rather fast. Halfway through December, Sven and I returned to Berlin after a few weeks away in the US. The day after we got back into country, he got some news from his work letting us know that we would be in Berlin a bit longer than we expected. So, we decided it was time to find a bit bigger flat in an area where I felt more connected. Before the holidays, we signed a new lease and a few days into the new year, Sven and I were busy with small renovations – making the space ready for our official move date. It’s been a wild start into 2020, but I feel so at home and at peace here already, and I’m really glad that we know what the next year or so holds for us.

We still have a lot to arrange, organize, and style – but I’m enjoying the journey and just so appreciative to be here. I’ve always dreamt of living in a beautiful turn of the century apartment like this, with sailing ceilings, historic molding, and herringbone wood floors. This time last week, I was still busy sanding and patching the walls. We decided to hire a painter to get the whole flat back to a beautiful baseline white for us. If anyone is looking for a painter in Berlin, reach out and I will gladly pass you along to the gentleman we worked with – he did an amazing job!

Now, we just need to get a few basics in place and then I’ll start working on more interior details – as you might guess, I have so many visions for this space!

    XX

GLDN ~ Lovely & Simple Handmade Jewelry

    December 29, 2019
GLDN - Elegant, Dainty & Timeless Minimalist style, gold necklace, minimal fashion, vintage style | RG Daily Blog

GLDN is a collection of slowly crafted jewelry — beautifully simple for everyday wear.

Based out of the US in Washington state, GLDN began like many handcrafted labels – in the home of the brand’s founder, Chrissy Lavdovsky. What originally started as a small Etsy shop (formally known as Layered + Long), GLDN quickly became a successful and wonderfully diverse jewelry brand. Despite this international growth and increase in demand, GLDN hasn’t veered away from the values and practices that made their items personal and unique since the very beginning. Every item is handmade to order at GLDN’s studio by one of the team’s talented metal crafters.

GLDN works with the understanding that good things take time, allowing each piece to be delicately made and personalized. Thoughtful details and quality materials are celebrated throughout the entire GLDN collection. Almost every item can be customized down to the very metal used — with selections ranging from solid gold (featured here) and silver, to gold and rose gold fill. This depth in material variety allows GLDN to offer their pieces at a range of price points, making the brand more accessible and transparent — some of the core values they strive for. GLDN is a brand that’s also committed to changing the world for the better. Each year, they donate 10% of their profits to nonprofit organizations that are creating positive change. You can read more about the organizations GLDN has supported and their special philanthropic collections here.

Recently, a few GLDN pieces moved into my jewelry box. But truth be told, they haven’t spent much time there because I’ve been wearing each one so often. The small cuff hoops featured in this article have quickly become my favorite earrings for everyday wear, and the delicate gold necklace with custom-stamped charms to match mine and Sven’s initials is also always around my neck. On their website, you can explore GLDN’s beautiful range of designs and typefaces to create a personalized item for yourself or as a special gift for someone near to your heart.
