Happy New Year! Although I’m a few weeks behind, I couldn’t start off my first blog post for 2021 without a congratulations. If you’re reading this, that means you made it through 2020, and that in-and-of-itself is reason enough to feel elated.
At the end of 2020, Sven and I took some time off to re-charge our batteries. With both of us in home office, we’ve developed a bad habit of falling into the work grind at all hours of the day. So, having some time to fully separate from our work and relax (even though we were still at home) felt so helpful and necessary.
This start into January has been unusually sedate too, but I’ve decided to take advantage of the circumstances by re-structuring my focus for the coming months. I’ll be scaling back a bit on my large design-projects for the time being because I’m on a mission to earn my German naturalization this year and need to dedicate a lot of time to studying. I just recently learned that I’ll be eligible to apply for my German citizenship in a few months, so I’m very motivated to work hard to pass the exams for both language and naturalization. Hopefully, I’ll be able to put in my application by summer.
In between studying, I’ll keep sharing articles and stories here on RG Daily. I also plan to dabble a bit more in sculpture too — a new hobby of mine that I picked up during our winter pause and instantly fell in love with. There’s something so soothing and cathartic about working with clay, and I’m excited to see where this new love takes me. Below are a few photos that I’ve snapped on my iPhone since January began. We’ve not had too many bright days here in Berlin, so the feeling at home has been relaxed and muted. The defused daylight during these long winters always brings a special feeling of calm, but does an equally good job putting me in the mood for the next season — let’s hope its a sunny one.
Xx, Rebecca
