It’s been a while since I’ve shared a true “update” post with you all, so I though I would do that today. Life has been really busy and exciting for us in recent days. Thankfully I have enough espresso to keep me going!

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably already know that Sven and I got married! We kept our elopement a secret until after the fact – only telling our closest family. The weeks before we said “I do”, I was away in the US spending some quality time with my family. I was also organizing our secret wedding from afar! The day after I flew back from the US, I left Berlin again to meet Sven in Copenhagen. I was totally jetlagged, but the pure excitement (mixed with a bit of espresso) was enough to keep me energized. So on the 15th of February, Sven and I were married! It was one of the best days of my life and I’m still high off the joy felt during those special hours.

Even though we weren’t originally planning to elope, I’m so happy we did. Before I even moved to Germany, Sven and I had talked about getting married of course. But the idea of organizing a wedding when your family and friends are divided by a massive ocean was really overwhelming to me. I wanted to be totally relaxed and at ease on that day, and it really could not have been more perfect and meaningful. Some point in the future, we are going to have a party to celebrate with our family and friends – we’re still not sure exactly when or where that will happen though. But I will tell you guys more about our Copenhagen wedding in a later post!

After our wedding weekend, Sven and I came back to Berlin together. Twelve hours after our plane touched down in Germany, I had a new visa in my passport too. I now have three years to live here. If I can prove that I’ve learned basic German after those three years, I’ll gain my permanent residence! Later that afternoon, our sofa was delivered and we were finally able to put our living room together and get the unpacked boxes out of the way. It was one of the most intense weeks of my life, considering all we got accomplished! Early this week, I re-enrolled in German classes and will continue learning this complicated, mildly intimidating, but interesting language.

I’ve also begun a few project with my freelance design work. Building a business since I’ve moved to Germany has been an on-going process, but I’ve never given up! Finally, things are starting to set into motion and I’ve been so inspired and encouraged by this. I’ll share more about this journey as things unfold. Sven is still working out of town most of the time, but thankfully he gets to come home on the weekends. He spends a lot of time between Bremen and Leuven Belgium. In the coming months however, his season of intensive traveling will come to an end. We might stay in Berlin, or we might move somewhere different. We don’t know yet! I’m leaving myself open to the adventure.

Talk soon,
Rebecca
